The holiday season is a busy time of year, which means it’s easy to forget to complete the daily tasks that are necessary. Braces could fall into that category because many people forget to care for their braces when they are busy shopping for gifts, going to holiday parties, and participating in traditions. This is very dangerous for your orthodontic journey, which is why it’s very important to do all you can to remember to care for your braces.
To properly care for your braces, our doctor, Dr. Scott Werner, has some tips for you, which are:
-Keep up on oral hygiene: Make sure to brush your teeth after each meal and snack. You should also floss at least once a day. If possible, floss more, like after each time you brush. Attend your dental checkups every six months, and keep up with your orthodontic adjustment appointments.
-Think of your braces during holiday parties: Sticky and hard-to-eat foods can damage your braces, so it’s best to avoid eating them. It’s also recommended to avoid sugary and acidic foods and drinks so you can prevent dental issues.
-Wear a mouthguard: When you play high-contact sports and activities, wear a mouthguard. This is important because if you wear a mouthguard when you get hit in the mouth, your smile and appliance can be protected.
