Are you about to improve your smile and oral health with braces in Memphis, Tennessee? If so, good for you! Braces can help you achieve the smile you have always wanted. To help you know more about orthodontic treatment and braces, Dr. Scott Werner and our dental team would like to share some braces facts with you.
First, it’s important to keep up on oral hygiene when you have braces. This is because food and plaque get stuck in and around the braces hardware. If they are not removed regularly, you could experience dental issues, which could prolong your treatment. So, it’s best to brush and floss after each time you eat.
Second, there are times when your braces make your teeth a bit sore. This is nothing to be alarmed about; it’s normal. When your teeth are sore, it means they are moving. When you experience this soreness, it’s best to only eat soft foods and take over-the-counter pain medication if necessary.
Third, the length of your orthodontic treatment depends on the severity of your tooth misalignment. Typically, patients participate in the alignment process for about 18 to 30 months. After your braces are removed, you will need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth in the correct positions.
