Braces are a common orthodontic solution to correct alignment issues with your teeth. Here at Memphis Orthodontic Specialists, P.C., Dr. Scott Werner typically uses them to address alignment, overcrowding, and under or overbite issues. While braces are available in different variations, they all work on the same principle of gradually repositioning your teeth through routine tension adjustments.

Traditional braces use brackets that are cemented to the face of your teeth. They are interconnected by a sturdy wire. This style of braces might include other types of orthodontic hardware, such as bands and spacers, to further aid in the realignment process.

Ceramic braces employ the same orthodontic hardware as traditional braces, except the hardware is the same color as your tooth enamel, making them less visible to the casual observer.

Clear, plastic braces, like Invisalign®, are only called for if the teeth in your smile need a minor amount of realignment. The clear, plastic aligners are custom shaped to match your teeth. At two week intervals, you will switch to another set of aligners. Each set has been tuned to bring you one step closer to your ideal orthodontic alignment. As time goes by, they will stretch the periodontal ligaments that anchor your teeth in the sockets.
